The Spirit of 45. The New Film By Ken Loach

Interesting and comprehensive documentary by Ken Loach that shows a broad overview of the misery in post-war Britain using film footage and interviews with various characters. Then, Loach continues explaining the victory of the Labour Party led by Clement Attlee versus Conservative Party of Churchill and the deep social reforms they undertook. Finally, he ends with the beginning of liberalism led by Margaret Thatcher and her Conservative administration.
Images of the film showing the misery of those years are moving, images speaking of the hope of people in achieving a fairer society with the Labour socialism are emotional, and images explaining the process of privatization in Thatcher period are worrying.
Perhaps, this is the part of the film where the director gives us less information, and we miss a deeper explanation of the reasons that led The Iron Lady to privatize everything the Labour had nationalized.
Without saying it plainly, Loach wants to open our eyes to how Western society is changing for the worse, to how people who had fought for a fairer society attend perplexed at the retreat of basic social services; and to how in 1945 people reacted to the prevailing unfairness and misery in a different way.
It is a warning sign on how passively today's society seems to react against the lack of scruples that some ruling classes have.
